Not to nit-pick, but what you refer to as “kerning” is in fact “leading”. And I have a question – why don’t you just keep the top copy red and change the underlying one to white, instead of doing the difference effect? is there a problem with overlapping colors in Inkscape?

Thanks for the clarification. Wasn’t sure what leading meant until now. Btw, I make all kinds of errors in my screencasts. They are unscripted and I have yet to make a perfect recording. Just don’t call me a professional because I make no effort at doing a really good job.
To answer your question, I suppose you could. I don’t always come up with the best way to draw something…just A way.
