I have been seeing some images pop up on several blogs regarding the new kubuntu logo. In my opinion the text treatment that makes up the logo looks more like someone’s quick-n-dirty prototype than something polished and finished. Perhaps Roman is still working on it. I hope so.
What looks out of place to me in the current version is the letter k. It doesn’t fit with the rest of the new ubuntu text. What font is that? Rather than just criticize Roman’s work (I’m sure he’s a much better designer than I am), I mocked up a version that is to my liking. Of course, I understand that what I have done will NEVER see the light of day since I’m not involved in the kubuntu project. Regardless, I have modified the k to look more “unbuntu-ish”. Also, the black k and tango black ubuntu text looks out of place as well. I chose a k with the same color as the widget logo instead. I wish I had a better image of the original kubuntu logo but I don’t.

…Anyway, I’m just a critic. I’ll get back to work now.
I have learned quite a few tricks from Nicu in the past. He has a new tutorial if anyone is interested. Check it out. I did.
Don Waters put together a puzzle piece tutorial using Inkscape. He has provided the SVG files along with some video if you are curious (or bi-curious in the case of Richard…eeewww). You can download the archive below and post comments if you would like to yell…or rather…communicate with Don. Have fun.
Finally finished up with Episode 103 is up. Check it out.
Episode 102 is now up. This episode demonstrates one way of achieving more realistic looking textures in Inkscape.
Ambroise Coutand has a new Inkscape tutorial over at VectorTuts+. Check it out.
Very interesting post by Jon Cruz. I get a little confused by CMYK since I usually make screen images. Jon does a great job of putting things in perspective.
Episode 101 is up. Sorry for the distorted sound in this episode. I had forgotten to turn down my volume level when I was recording.
For those who cannot wait until the official release of Inkscape 0.47 lands into the Ubuntu 9.10 repositories (if it ever does), you can grab my package (LOL! Did I just write grab my package?…tehehe). It’s not a proper package since I built it with checkinstall but it works. Plus, it will save you time compiling it yourself.
