The New kubuntu Logo…
March 30th, 2010 by heathenxI have been seeing some images pop up on several blogs regarding the new kubuntu logo. In my opinion the text treatment that makes up the logo looks more like someone’s quick-n-dirty prototype than something polished and finished. Perhaps Roman is still working on it. I hope so.
What looks out of place to me in the current version is the letter k. It doesn’t fit with the rest of the new ubuntu text. What font is that? Rather than just criticize Roman’s work (I’m sure he’s a much better designer than I am), I mocked up a version that is to my liking. Of course, I understand that what I have done will NEVER see the light of day since I’m not involved in the kubuntu project. Regardless, I have modified the k to look more “unbuntu-ish”. Also, the black k and tango black ubuntu text looks out of place as well. I chose a k with the same color as the widget logo instead. I wish I had a better image of the original kubuntu logo but I don’t.
…Anyway, I’m just a critic. I’ll get back to work now.

The k is a quick and dirty prototype! It’s been mentioned in most every location that the logo has been mentioned that the “k” is a placeholder. Once completed, the k will fit in with the rest of the letters, and should not be noticeably different in style or color.

My apologies, Jonathan. I took it as a finished logo. Perhaps that is why I haven’t seen any higher resolution images of it.

Well, in any case, you’ve just designed the ‘k’ for them. I’m sure the cheque is in the mail.
I’d be interested to see if they end up doing as good a job as you have here.

Im thinking the little logo on the right is supposed to be an “adverb” of the ubuntu logo where the three people from above meet. Maybe its time for a little challange here on your site to come up with something new. Like it should be in the consense of the ubuntu logo but show that there are diffrence maybe get the “K” for KDE more in. or the a glip of the KDE dragon. Im shure your audience will come up with lots of idears…
