Addicted to Love…I mean Spiro
July 14th, 2008 by heathenxI cannot say enough about Spiro in the Inkscape development releases. If you are a die hard Inkscaper then this is a must try. You’ll never want to use standard bezier paths and tweak them ever again. Drawing paths with this new functionality is so much fun, especially now that we can use a shape copied to the clipboard as a brush. Thinking what I’m thinking? Many many possibilities indeed.

That looks very cool. Do a blue one with the swirls a little more subdued. I need a desktop wallpaper. 1920×1200 if you please.
You see lots of this type of stuff in some very recent design trends (web and otherwise). I’m not sure what it’s called. Almost like a fractal type design only much more natural looking.
Hmm.. You better be screencasting this… Or I will sic Don on you - again.

Hello
A dream to watch a tutorial using spiro in Inkscape ?

Keep an eye on Andy Fitzsimon’s blog. I think he’s going to have a tutorial posted shortly. If not then I will make a quick-n-dirty ‘cast so that you can see how it works.
If anyone is a Windows user then you can download dev builds already compiled from Inkscape.org. The rest of us get to compile ourselves.

What did you mean by “use a shape copied to the clipboard as a brush”? A bend/pattern along a path effects or maybe recently sth similar to artistic brushes from Illustrator was developed?

@Inkscaper
What I meant was we will be able to use a shape copied to the clipboard to use as brush for a spiro path. Here’s an example. That’s not limited to just spiro paths. Bezier paths are included too.
