About

Welcome to BlenderTuts.

Our aim here is well stated on our site header. We want to demonstrate how Blender can be used for motion picture editing, effects and finishing. Most people only think of Blender as a 3D modeling application, but it’s actually a whole lot more. And since there are untold numbers of quality videos on the net covering 3D modeling concepts, finding good information related to video editing and effects in Blender is significantly more difficult. We’re hoping to help fill that void at least a little bit.

And while we’re at it, let’s make it clear what we’re aiming for. While you can approach our first tutorials with very little if any Blender experience at all, we’re not low-balling our goals here with respect to video editing itself. The hope is that by doing these tutorials,  you can also elevate your game when it comes to editing motion pictures. Sure we’ll become more proficient with the tools as we go, but we also want to push past beginner level editing into more intermediate and advanced concepts. Raise your game along with us.

Another perhaps secondary goal here is to provide a rebuttal to people constantly shouting that Linux has no viable video editing capabilities for the average user. In fact, by the end of our first two screencasts we’ve already demonstrated the basic capabilities that most consumer level users need in a video editing application. Although of course we hope to get those people (and ourselves) to aim for something a little higher. As you (and we) will find out, there is much Blender can do in terms of video editing, effects and finishing that is simply not possible in the typical consumer grade video editing app.

And while we may very well get into more complex concepts and effects, rest assured that at least two of us are right on the learning curve with you. Plain English is our mother tongue. :)   We will try our best to explain and demonstrate concepts in a way that you, and we, will understand.

Screencasters and authors include: Richard Querin, Troy James Sobotka and heathenx.
